| The Malvern Hills are an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty - one of a family of 40 AONBs in England and Wales.
The Malvern Hills, a dramatic ridge of ancient volcanic rocks, are the oldest
in Europe being over 600 millions years old. A rich cultural heritage of forts,
castles and priories stands proudly from this landscape of ancient woodland,
rolling pastures and wild, open commons. The area is also home to a wide
variety of wildlife. The Hills from British Camp to North Hill are 9 miles long and consist of a chain of 20 named hills running North to South. This ridge of hills formed a socio-political boundary from at least the Bronze Age. The hills were also a ritual landscape throughout prehistory and into the medieval period, especially for the importance of numerous springs of pure water. Ideal for a short walk or a longer hike - there are so many different routes to choose from. Enjoy a healthy day out in beautiful scenery and fresh air. If you think a map or a mapped walks guide book might be useful I have included links to some of those available on Amazon UK below: |
